So last year was my first year on the playa and I got cold...I mean I got really cold. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to stay cool during the day and was very successful in my wardrobe choices, but don't forget the warm gear for that 4am hike that you didn't think you'd ever see.
Creative ideas for warm clothes?
This year I have some fuzzy furry fun that's a simple poncho style and of course little red riding hood
Simple and easy to make--pajama pants! I just learned how to use a sewing machine and taught myself to read a pattern and made some in blue cheetah print fur. They are roomy, comfy, and you can make them in whatever fabric expresses your style best. The fabric stores all have patterns marked in bold as EASY and you can find ones for pants, coats, etc. and embellish however you like to make them more personal. A Buttoneer is a good tool for attaching EL wire especially to outerwear. Also, check out cheap accessory stores at the mall (Claire's, Icing, any that are geared toward teenage girls) cuz legwarmers and armwarmers are HUGE right now due to the 80's comeback and you can get them super cheap. Also long socks are a big fad that we can capitalize on and can be found almost anywhere right now. I got a bunch at Target or check out sockdreams.com and they have like a million to choose from. One guy in camp last year had taken regular jeans and painted them bright yellow (shoes too) and they looked fab! Thrift store old gaudy coats or bathrobes can be a great investment or sometimes you can find an old tux at those too--Fun! If you have a local theatre-style costume shop, check out their clearance racks as well. You never know what may turn up. And chat up the people working there. Often, they are or know Burners and will have stuff they'll cut you deals on.
It's my job to educate Sparkle Ponies...I'm not nice about it...don't be a Sparkle Pony and we'll get along just fine.
